Charcuterie

Nothing screams holiday cheer like a good and delicious cheese board aka a Charcuterie board. Now don’t know what that is well let me explain it to you. Charcuterie (shahr-cute-uh-ree) is a French word for smoked, dry-cured or cooked meats. This category includes favorites like bacon, ham, pâté, and sausages. More unusual items like terrines, rillettes, galantines and duck confit are also considered charcuterie.

My family loves cheese: baked cheese, melted cheese, sliced cheese, cubed cheese, etc you name it they will usually try it or eat a lot of it. (Maybe in a next life we should be dairy farmers). Anyways, we always try to come up with fun appetizers for parties. This year I decided to host Christmas for my family. It’s also my daughters first Christmas so you mommas out there remember your first Christmas with a child trying to make it perfect? Yep that’s me trying to make it perfect for everyone. Bless my husbands soul for putting up with me.

Anyways to make a perfect cheese board you need to pick your cheeses. I decided to be adventurous and try two new cheeses. I went to my local grocery store and bought blocks of cheese and cut them into cubes myself. I also grabbed some crackers and fresh fruit. Then went to aldi and picked up some meats while because I don’t want to break the bank. The whole arrangement cost me about $25 and I had tons of leftovers 🙂 it fed 9 people so it makes a big serving.

charcuterie board ingredients:

  • 3-4 types of cheese. Mine were all firm to soft (havarti, marble, Muenster with bacon and blueberry white cheddar)
  • 2-3 types of meat (prosciutto and hard salami)
  • Crackers or bread
  • Fruits like apples, grapes, blackberries (or whatever you like)
  • Little picks to label your cheeses
  • A serving platter like a large cutting board

Arrange however you would like, get creative!!
